Infogrames-Atari Merger Comes To A Conclusion

Infogrames has finally acquired all of Atari's remaining shares in a trade of eleven million dollars today. Infogrames had previously owned the majority of the Atari company, 51.4% in fact.

The first act of business from Infogrames was to lend Atari $20 million to help out with Atari's month-after-month loss record.

"Bringing Atari US and Infogrames businesses together will enable us to create a simplified global structure for our business as we seek to re-build a well-managed, cohesive and financially disciplined company," said Infogrames CEO David Gardner.

It's going to be interesting to see what Phil Harrison can do for Infogrames and Atari now.

Phil Harrison Now Leader of Infogrames

In a follow-up to a bit of news a couple weeks ago that both ryizzel and I bombed on writing about, Phil Harrison, previously head of SCEA (Sony for all of you acronym-deficient readers out there) is now the President of Atari's Infogrames.

Yes sir, we totally forgot to update all of you about Phil Harrison leaving Sony after fifteen years of working solely for Sony. Sorry guys.

Now that he's got his fancy new job with a company that hasn't produced a game since 2005, I'm sure he's very very proud of his decision. Even if I think he's completely batty for making that transition.
