Iron Man Demo Impressions (PS3)

In a desperate search for awesome gaming news, which there's little of today, I realized that today was the Playstation Store's update day. I log in, check out the new stuff, lo and behold there's two new demos that I immediately download. Echochrome, and Iron Man.

Seeing how I posted about it before. I realized what better post could I do than a demo-impression article. Let's check it out after the break.

After downloading and installing the demo, which was nearly a gig in size, I start it up. The title music, while semi-epic gets repetitive....quick. However, that's more of a personal issue, and it's not that I'd normally sit there and listen to a game menu's music, but I had to begin writing this post of course!

There's three difficulties that you can play on, Easy, Normal, and Formidable. Because when you use easy and normal....hard certainly shouldn't come after that. Let's start on Normal, because I'm a sissy.

Ok, begin the demo and I'm brought to a very short, very uninformative briefing about the mission at hand. It seems some people have a stockpile of weaponry and it's your job to go kick some ass and destroy the stockpiles. Awesome, this should be great.

Next up is the Suit Configuration, where you can spend absurd amounts of money to purchase upgrades for parts of your suit. Not bad, adding a little strategic element in there, but it looks like there's only 3 upgrade levels per part, but with each tech upgrade you unlock a few choices for suit parts. When I purchased the core suit tech upgrade I unlocked two different core suit pieces to use.

They start you off with 100 million, with the most expensive starting upgrade costing 93 million, your repulsors. Repulsors are a fancy name for blasty hand things that make the enemies catch the dead.

The graphics are great, at least the landscape and Iron Man are. The tanks and helicopters look a little...half-assed if I may say so...but Iron Man and his attacks are sweeeet.

Voice overs? Well...they felt a little shallow to me. I'm just not a fan of "witty" one-liners and British servants. Honestly though, the voices could have definitely been done better.

Finally the controls, I couldn't get used to it...maybe it's just my style of play, but dang I couldn't get the whole Hover -> Fly Fast -> Hover -> Shoot -> Fly While Shooting thing down, especially since I couldn't get the camera to work with me. This section however, may be my own problem so don't bite the dust on it.

Overall? The Iron Man demo was pretty fun, but definitely not for a real hardcore gamer. Unless you're an Iron Man fan, then by all means go for it. Casual gamers would probably love it as well, mindless destruction is groovin.

Wrapping Up Another Slow Week

One more week down, and I managed to be late on this post where we discuss our gaming adventures of the week and subsequent weekend. Better late than never right?

So what games did you guys play over the weekend?

I worked my way through The Darkness, which I picked up used for ten bucks (Huzzah!). It was definitely worth it and now I'm considering crawling through on Hard mode...but then again I generally suck at staying alive in games like that. I'm thinking about finishing up this Sunday with a little Guitar Hero and Super Mario Galaxy (Yeah, still haven't beaten it, I suck).

You guys don't want to hear what I wasted my time on though, so let's go over the Highlights of the Week

-Marvel characters are back in style, Spidey and Iron Man get more games.

-Codename: Cagney, the next update for Burnout Paradise gets more details, user-created soundtrack for the win.

-Playstation Store gets a much needed overhaul.

-Konami cracks down on Beta abusers.

My Spidey Senses Are Tingling, Another Spider-Man Game Rises

Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows is coming to us from Shaba Games and Treyarch and is set to appear on the PS3, PS2, PSP, 360, DS, PC and the Nintendo Wii. What? No cell phone action? Lame!

The official website tells us this:

"New York City has been invaded and only Spider-Man can save it.

The fate of New York is in your hands...take control..Spider-Man: Web of Shadows gives you an unprecedented level of gameplay choice, including, for the first time, control over the game's direction and outcome. Choose how Spider-Man fights, which powers to upgrade, who in the Marvel Universe to fight with or against, and the fate of New York City itself.

Choose wisely."

Free-roam web-slinging AND a non-linear storyline? Sounds like it'll be one hell of a game if they don't kill the story like they did with Spiderman 3. What's that? You want to know more? Well there's a trailer after the jump you giddy little Spidey-head you.

So, since this game let's us choose who we fight and who we fight with...can I finally tag-team Spidey and Venom against Mary Jane? Even if she needs to be brought back from the dead, I'd love to kick the crap out of Zombie Jane.

Iron Man Demo Tomorrow For 360, PS3? Soon...ish

A week or two ago I was watching some of the gameplay footage from the Iron Man game that's coming to the 360 and PS3 with ryizzel and we agreed on one thought. Looks 'effing fun, but how long would the initial awesome-factor last?

Well, tomorrow 360 users will be able to find out just how good (if at all) the game is, while hermits of the Playstation Network will have to wait an undetermined time, all we know is it's coming soon. Let's hope for the best, Iron Man deserves it.
