GameStop Special Offer

The good folks over at Gamestop have a special offer out to promote Nintendo's upcoming racing game, Mario Kart Wii.

All you must do is trade in 2 wii titles from the list (which is posted after the break) and Gamestop Will let you purchase Mario Kart for the mere price of $9.99. The thing is...all the games on the list are pretty new, so your basically getting screwed six ways from Sunday on this deal.

Sigh...that's capitalism for ya.

An External Link To A Rant

Yesterday ryizzel did a rant about all of the DBZ money-milking games out there, to which an anonymous reader gave him a lecture about which I will proudly post here after the break.

Dragon Ball Z is probably the world's most prominent and popular anime franchise. Nearly every gaming system of the past 15 years has in some way felt the sheer force that the name brings with it in sales. While I can't speak for the quality of this particular title, several of the previous ones have been very innovative and immensely fun as far as fighting games go. I mean, if you're gonna take this point of view, then why aren't you ragging on Namco for putting out so many Tekkens on the PS2, or Nintendo for making so many Mario games. They do it because:
1. The names alone can move nearly any product, third party or otherwise.
2. Because those are the games people want to play.
Heaven forbid any company wanting to make money on a successful franchise. It's a shame you won't get to find out what this title is like, because you've already made up your mind about it without even playing it. And truly a nice job on that blanket statement against anime fans as well. Truly "Black" and "White" journalism there, pal.

Very well said Anonymous man. I see you mentioned the Mario games and other such characters, well how convenient for now Calin Ciabai of Softpedia has published a rant referring to that exact topic! Go read the rant and lecture him too good Anon.

It's here.

Note, we do not discriminate against games here at B&W, our distaste for the DBZ fighting games is the fact that it's getting more and more corny by bringing in characters like Janemba and Pikkon (is he even in one of the games?), we LOVED DBZ, and both ryizzel and I are anime addicts. If Tekken, DOA, and Virtua Fighter didn't have such high standards for their games we would definitely bitch about them too.

Also this was an easy way to introduce that rant which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Super Mario Fusion

Ever wonder what would happen if Mario and Master Chief had babies? Do you yearn to see Mario frag goombas? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to kill a grunt with a turnip?

Well, you might want to check out Super Mario Fusion.

Super Mario Fusion is a crossover Mario fan game made in Game Maker 7 Pro using a heavily modified version of the Super Mario Bros. Hello Engine III. I expect to release the demo and source by the weekend of January 11-13.

Halo will be its own world in this crossover Mario fan game. I've developed three Halo weapons into the game: Plasma Pistol (with charge shot), Assault Rifle, and Covenant Plasma Rifle; Mario can use them all!

The most significant aspect of the Halo levels is that THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT. Many enemies will be strategically placed throughout the levels, so you are required to work your way through the enemy fortifications at your own pace. Also, Halo weaponry will make certain sections easier, but Mario can still use his own weaponry (shells, fireballs, hammers, invincibility) to kill the Covenant. The Covenant cannot be stomped.

The level featured will be in the demo release. Believe it or not, this level is only 40% complete. I still have one more sublevel planned after the checkpoint, and additional level design tweaks are needed for all areas of the level. As it stands, this is a very difficult level because of the timely pace and patience required for most sections of this level.

Grab the Demo here.

The author also made a megaman crossover here.
