Nintendo DS Will Continue Printing Money

If you were sitting on the edge considering buying either a Nintendo Wii or DS and that final price cut would have sent you plummeting into the world of cutesy half-assed mini-games, well....stop waiting. There will be no price cut.

President Satoru Iwata says "Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them,"

Thanks Mr. Iwata, we really appreciate not being able to save money on your gaming peripherals.

What Does 100,000,000 Mean To You?

Could it be the number of breaths you take in your lifespan? The average times a hummingbird beats it's wings in a year? Number of pencils sharpened daily by elementary school teachers?

Well, it's possible it's all of those things, but in today's post the number 100,000,000 stands for how many Nintendo DS games have been sold in Japan alone.

Normally that's an astounding number, but what's even more amazing is that only 922 DS games have been released over there and 21 of said games were multi-million sellers. The Japanese truly have a love for their DS games apparently.

DS Fanboy wrote up a neat little list that shows the highest selling games in Japan.

1. New Super Mario Bros. (5,174,163)
2. Brain Age 2 (4,835,159)
3. Animal Crossing Wild World (4,693,662)
4. Brain Age (3,771,440)
5. Mario Kart DS (3,042,753)
6. Pokemon Diamond (3,005,505)
7. Pokemon Pearl (2,490,564)
8. English Training DS (2,216,322)
9. Mario Party DS (1,706,506)
10. Big Brain Academy (1,654,285)

Yet again we hear the tired joke....it prints money.

Gauntlet Hits the DS

Eidos has announced that Backbone Entertainment will be bringing us a delicious little classic game to our Nintendo DS.

Everyone remember Gauntlet? Well it's coming back, and with online play, multiplayer modes include deathmatch, team deathmactch, and treasure hoarde. Sound like fun? Damn right it does.

Hit the jump for slightly more information.

The game will feature 4 character classes, Elf, Wizard, Warrior, and Valkyrie. Currently there is no release date set, but I'm sure there will be as the game comes to a finish.

"With Gauntlet we've revitalised all of the action and fun of the original 1980s arcade classic, whilst updating the visuals and gameplay for today's DS gamer," said Eidos brand manager Ray Livingston. "With four-player Wi-Fi cooperative mode, one of the most memorable multiplayer gaming experiences of all time is back with a bang."

Multiplayer in DS version of Disgaea

Recently, an interviewer from CrispyGamer got a chance to sit down with Jack Niidan, PR manager of NIS america, to talk about the much anticipated release of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Since Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was announced for the DS many fans have been wondering what will make the game different from the PSP version. Niidan touches on that in this interview, and even talks about the possibility of bringing Disgaea 2 to the DS.

The main feature of Disgaea DS is the multi-player mode. Fans that are tired of the original can still get a kick out of this game by destroying their buddy's Laharl and Etna.

Yes, thats right, now you and your friends may battle it out using your favorite characters from Disgaea. Wifi support hasn't been confirmed, but I'm sure we will get more details in the coming months. The game will also include a unique Battle feature that makes use of the DS's touch screen. Fans may also be relieved to hear that the DS version will retain all the content from the PSP version, but with extra content.

Brawl Roster Limited?

Super Smash Brothers Brawl's character roster of thirty-five certainly seems like plenty, and it better be enough to keep you satisfied because there's no DLC coming for this one according to game creator Masahiro Sakurai.

"There are no characters that can be unlocked via connecting to WiiConnect24 or interacting in that fashion," Sakurai said when posed a question regarding the possibility of downloadable content for Brawl. "And I may be mistaken here, but the Wii doesn't have a hard drive -- it's a disc-based system -- so I don't think we'll be doing that, I don't think it's going to happen."

"Seeing the success that Brawl has had with the Wii remote being playing sideways, I don't think that there are control limitations that keep it from being ported to the DS," Sakurai said. "But I personally have no plans to do this myself. If, in the future, such a thing was to be planned, it would be up to Nintendo to decide how and when and in what way they would like to create that sort of game."

So there you have it, the roster of immortality. At least the DS version might have some newbies to the front lines.
