New Details Revealed about PS3 Headset

Yesterday the Playstation blog revealed some details about the new PS3 Bluetooth headset coming to stores this fall. The headset will be bundled with SOCOM: Confrontation and sold as a standalone peripheral at $50.

* "High-Quality" mode with use on PS3, offering noise cancellation and a better chat quality on the console.
* The quality of the headset will allegedly allow for more accurate commands of AI-controlled squad mates in Confrontation. There will also be "voice animation" where the player's avatar will "mimic" them during voice chat.
* There will be an in-game status indicator exclusive to the headset. It will display connection status, battery charge, speaker volume and mute status.
* Cradling the set back on the dock will turn it into a "desktop microphone" while charging.

Socom: Confrontation Gameplay/Interview Video

The video brings us some gameplay footage and a pretty interesting interview about SOCOM: Confrontation. Things are looking pretty good for the game which should be coming to us on September 16th, 2008.

Watch the video, it can illustrate it all far better than I can with my fancy typing.

SOCOM: Confrontation Release Date

SOCOM: Confrontation, which I did a nice and mildy-lengthy preview of sorts right here, finally got a release date and it sounds like it's aiming at September 16th, 2008.

I'm hoping they don't try and rush it if they're not completely done and use the infamous claim "We'll just patch it." Seriously guys, let's git r done.

Now I'm off to shoot myself for making a reference to Larry the Cable Guy.

SOCOM Confrontation

By now most of you have probably heard that the Playstation 3 will be graced with the next iteration of SOCOM, this one being SOCOM: Confrontation. However now the list of Special Forces which will be available in game, on launch, has been announced officially and they are the following:

* Navy Sea, Air, and Land (SEALs, United States)
* Special Air Service (SAS, United Kingdom)
* Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK, Germany)
* Unidad de Operaciones Especiales (UOE, Spain)
* 1er Régiment de Parachutistes d'Infanterie de Marine (1er RPIMa, France)

IGN says this about the special forces usefulness "Joining a special force is now a perk associated with joining a clan; solo players will still be able to play as either commandos or mercenaries, but special forces (and their associated uniforms, gear, and weapons) will only be available to clan members."

Seeing how we've never covered SOCOM: Confrontation before, there will be more info about the game after the jump.

First of all, SOCOM: Confrontation is not being handled by the obvious Zipper developers, but it's been picked up by Slant Six, the guys doing the SOCOM game for the PSP.

Sorry single player preference people, this one's being targeted for an online-only experience; so if you were hoping for a story-mode, you're out of luck. Since it's going to be online only there's a lot of focus on leader boards, clans, and all of the delicious little bits that come with an online game.
