GTA IV Sales War

In this world, there are three things you can count on Taxes, Death, and that the most anticipated game of the year will boost the sales of your console.

According to Sony, PS3 sales have soared since Last Tuesday's release of Grand Theft Auto IV. No specific sales figures were released, which is where a problem begins to arise...

Not to be outdone by Sony, Microsoft boasts that "retail partners" are telling them the 360 version of GTA IV is outselling the PS3 version 2:1. Microsoft is also claiming a sudden surge in sales of the 360 due to GTA's launch.

As much as I appreciate Microsoft and Sony throwing vague facts in my face like some deranged fanboy in the comments section of youtube, I think I'll just wait for the NPD to tell me who outsold whom.

GTA IV Was Released Today

Ryizzel's got it, I don't.

The game's out now...so maybe we can stop clogging our posts with GTA? We did our best to only take the best of the GTA news, but it was all pretty good news anyways.

Ok, on with the week.

A Gamer's Blaspheme

Ok guys, you're all hellaciously excited about Grand Theft Auto IV right? Open world, awesome new graphics engine, amazing story, the whole nine yards. IGN even went so far as to say it was the greatest game since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Well, what I'm about to say may shock you all. It may be even considered a slight form of anarchism amongst us hardcore gamers....I am not interested in the newest Grand Theft Auto Game. I recognize it'll be an amazing game and all that jazz, but it's just not for me.

Is this bad of me? I've played and own Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas but I've never 100% been excited for them. Hell, I didn't get San Andreas until almost a year after it had been released.

So what I'm asking, is there any gamers out there like me who prefer the style of open world like Oblivion or Morrowind verses the sandbox style that Grand Theft Auto holds so well.

Grand Theft Auto IV Scandal?

Yesterday a letter allegedly composed by Rockstar and Take-Two began circulating around the internet.

The letter told retailers to ignore the April 29th release date and distribute the game; unfortunately for us however, the letter is a fraud.

In other news, It seems a torrent of GTA IV has been leaked on the web. People have already begun to rack up achievement points on GTA IV, as evidenced by by this huge list of gamertags over at MyGamerCard.net.

There has been no official word on the actions Rockstar and Microsoft plan to take against these pirates. I assume that both companies are looking into the matter.

GTA IV Stat Tracker

Today Rockstar has announced a stat tracking system for GTA IV's single player campaign. Similar to Activision's guitarhero.com, Rockstar Games Social Club will offer users multiplayer leaderboards and assorted statistics using the "aggregated data of millions of connected players." There will also be rewards for who can complete GTA IV's singleplayer first, or who can achieve 100% completion. All that is needed to access these features is a PSN or XBL account.

Full list of features after the break.

In other news, Rockstar has released it's final trailer for GTA IV, titled "Good Lord, What Are You Doing? (a.k.a. Everyone's a Rat)." The video is available for download on both PSN and XBL.

* LCPD Police Blotter -- A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.
* The Story Gang -- This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.
* The 100% Club -- Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.
* The Hall of Fame -- This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.
* The Liberty City Marathon -- A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

ESRB Gives GTA IV A Rating of......

C'mon, do I really have to tell you what the ESRB has rated GTA IV? Mature. Surprise!

Mature for the fact that it contains the following: partial nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, use of drugs and alcohol, blood and intense violence. That's a pretty long list isn't it? After the break there's a comparison chart of the ratings given to all the GTA games.

Grand Theft Auto
Rated Mature based on:

* Animated Blood
* Strong Language

Grand Theft Auto 2
Rated Mature/Teen (depending on platform) based on:

* Animated Violence
* Strong Language
* Suggestive Themes

Grand Theft Auto 3
Rated Mature based on:

* Blood
* Strong Language
* Violence

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Rated Mature based on:

* Blood and Gore
* Strong Language
* Strong Sexual Content
* Violence

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Rated Mature based on:

* Blood and Gore
* Intense Violence
* Strong Language
* Strong Sexual Content
* Use of Drugs

Then San Andreas got bumped up to an Adults Only rating thanks to the hot coffee mod and was the best topic of conversation for months after that.

Grand Theft Auto IV
Rated Mature based on:

* Partial Nudity
* Strong Language
* Strong Sexual Content
* Use of Drugs and Alcohol
* Blood
* Intense Violence

I guess Rockstar is getting more hardcore with every passing year.
